Episodes are groups of levels in Dusk. There are three episodes in the game. Any episode may be started at any time from the main menu, although they share an overarching story. Each episode has a different theme, aesthetic, and enemy roster.
Each Episode consists of eleven levels; ten normal and one secret. The tenth level is a "boss" level.
The Foothills, the first episode, takes place near the fictional town of Dusk, Pennsylvania. It follows an unnamed treasure hunter after he is captured by a cult of rednecks using dark magic. The theme is agrarian in the early levels, including locations like barns and countryside churches, with the later levels happening in the citycenter. The common enemies are leathernecks, cultists, and black phillips.
The Facilities, the second episode, takes place in the former industrial center of Dusk. The theme is industrial, but as the episode advances the levels turn sinister, including a massive meatgrinder for thousands of people and large, gravity-defying laboratories. The common enemies are soldiers, cultists, and welders.
The Nameless City is the third and last episode. The theme is Lovecraftian. The Nameless City is filled with ancient, impossibly large cathedrals and aqueducts made of strange stone, and things become even stranger when reality falls apart. The common enemies are cultists, iron priestesses, and bone monks.
